sniff test(snif test)
fluoroscopy A test for diaphragmatic function; paradoxic motion of a hemidiaphragm when a patient sniffs vigorously to show phrenic nerve paralysis or paresis of the hemidiaphragm. If rapid upward movement of the diaphragm occurs on brisk sniffing in the supine position, it is highly suggestive of paralysis of the diaphragm.
