SHO

Senior house officer. A junior doctor in the pre-2006 (pre-Modernising Medical Careers) regime of training in the UK, in the 2nd post-graduate year—i.e., immediately after the pre-registration house officer (PRHO) year. SHOs and Specialist Registrars (SpRs) are now incorporated, with some exceptions, into a single-specialty registrar (StR) grade, with the years being designated ST1, ST2, ST3, etc.
