Shmita-salmonellosis

Shmita-salmonellosis

Shmita is the Judaic practice of letting land lay fallow every seventh year, at which time non-kosher food is purchased from gentiles. One report (JAMA 1983: 250:2470c) implicated the use of human fertiliser—“night soil”—in salmonellosis due to this religious practice.
