a cerclage procedure done by purse-string suturing of an incompetent cervical os with a nonabsorbent suture material.

The surgical placement of a purse-string suture around an incompetent cervical os to attempt to prevent the premature onset of labor. The suture material used for this cerclage procedure is nonabsorbable and must be removed before delivery. See: cervical incompetence
