(shmorl) [Christian G. Schmorl, Ger. pathologist, 1861–1932]
Herniation of the nucleus pulposus through a cracked vertebral end plate into the vertebral body. The resulting bone necrosis is detectable on radiograph and is called Schmorl nodes.
