Dactylitis is swelling of the fingers and toes that can cause them to have a sausage-like appearance, and it's sometimes called
sausage digit. Dactylitis can be a symptom of several different medical conditions, including things like tuberculosis, sarcoidosis and infection.
A "
sausage digit" (Figure 2) refers to diffuse soft-tissue swelling of an entire finger (or toe) mimicking the shape of a sausage, as seen on physical examination or on radiographs.
I have two
sausage digits, a finger and a toe, as well as other sore fingers, elbows and wrists.
