SULT2B1

A gene on chromosome 19q13.3 that encodes an enzyme which adds sulphur groups to hormones, neurotransmitters, drugs and xenobiotics, increasing their water solubility and, by extension, their renal excretion. It is also responsible for bioactivating hydroxysteroids such as DHEA and pregnenolone. It is highly expressed in the placenta and prostate.
