PCSK4

A gene on chromosome 19p13.3 that encodes a peptidase S8 family convertase involved in processing pairs of basic amino acid residues located on prohormones and other protein precursors, thus playing a role in transcriptional coactivation. PCSK4 is found in the placenta—primarily in the cytotrophoblast layer of trophoblast cells during the first trimester of pregnancy, and in the syncytiotrophoblast and stroma cells during the third trimester—and may also help stabilise the multiprotein transcription complex.
