In 1938, Rosenzweig (cited in Harrington, 2011) defined frustration as an obstacle preventing goal satisfaction, and frustration tolerance as the ability to withstand frustration without distorting reality, then developed a projective test that he named the Rosenzweig Picture-Frustration Study. Other researchers (e.g., Clifford, Chou, Mao, Lan, & Kuo, 1990) have put forward their own views on the subject of tolerance and frustration.
