Rigid Loop Sign

A term of art referring to one or more non-motile, crescent-shaped loops of oedematous small intestine which have been ‘paralysed’ in position, regardless of whether the film has been taken in the upright and decubitus position. The rigid loop sign may be seen in a plain abdominal film in mesenteric vein occlusion
