A self-prescribed, over-the-counter patent medicine containing the highly radioactive isotopes 226Ra and 228Ra. It was sold as an endocrine “tonic” and used for impotence and chronic conditions, including anaemia, rheumatic disease, multiple sclerosis, gout and others. This so-called “mild radium therapy era” collapsed when its advocates and users began dying due to massive radiation poisoning.
