RAMP1A gene on chromosome 2q36-q37.1 that encodes one of the RAMP (receptor [calcitonin] activity-modifying proteins) family of single-transmembrane-domain proteins, which are type-I transmembrane proteins needed to transport calcitonin-receptor-like receptor (CRLR) to the plasma membrane. CRLR can function as either a calcitonin-gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor or an adrenomedullin receptor, depending on the expressed RAMP; in the presence of RAMP1, CRLR acts as a CGRP receptor. RAMP1 protein is involved in the terminal glycosylation, maturation and presentation of the CGRP receptor to the cell surface.
