proximal tubule

(redirected from Proximal tubular)

proximal tubule

The first part of the tubular system of a nephron after the Bowman's capsule. It has convoluted and straight segments and is followed by the distal tubule.

proximal tubule

the convoluted tube between the loop of Henle and Bowman's capsule in the vertebrate kidney.

In the early stages of CsA administration kidney damage can occur, which causes alterations in intrarenal hemodynamics related to afferent arteriolar vasoconstriction, causing a decrease in glomerular filtration rate, renal plasma flow, loss of proximal tubular cells brush border, proximal tubule dilatation, swelling, necrosis, and infiltration of white blood cells in the kidney cortex.

Of the different types of RTA associated with hypokalemia, distal RTA may be due to a defect in proximal tubular reabsorption found in the bicarbonate ion (HC[O.sub.3]) in type 2 RTA or a defect involving impaired distal tubular [H.sup.+] secretion in [H.sup.+]-ATPase/[H.sup.+][K.sup.+] ATPase (type 1 RTA).
