procyanidins

procyanidins

A class of compounds found in red wine that suppress the synthesis of the blood vessel-constricting peptide endothelin-1 and may account for the suppose health advantage of moderate regular indulgence in red wine drinking. The highest levels are to be found in wines from south-west France.

The antioxidants like catechins and procyanidins in avocado seeds help reduce pain, swelling, and stiffness due to inflammation.
French maritime pine extract contains a complex mixture of compounds known as procyanidins and phenolic acids (5,6) that help slow the progression of arterial plaque.
According to the researchers, the two types of bioactives, called flavanols and procyanidins, behave differently in the body.
Pycnogenol is a natural plant extract originating from the bark of the maritime pine that grows along the coast of southwest France and is found to contain a unique combination of procyanidins, bioflavonoids and phenolic acids, which offer extensive natural health benefits.
TNFalpha-induced NF-kappaB activation and cell oxidant production are modulated by hexameric procyanidins in Caco-2 cells.
used procyanidins B1 and C1 to interfere with LPS-induced macrophages and found that the proanthocyanidins inhibited the activation of the NF-[kappa]B pathway by inhibiting the phosphorylation of I[kappa]B [29].

Among the antioxidant phytochemicals reported in the extracts from the genus Crataegus are procyanidins, flavonoids, flavonols, glycosylated flavanones, and triterpene pentacyclic acids [6, 9-11], all considered as important therapeutic options against hypertension, angina pectoris, heart arrhythmia, and the first stages of congestive heart failure.
Also, five flavan-3-ol derivatives were identified and quantified: 3 monomers and 2 procyanidins. The major compound in juice from fresh fruit was procyanidin B1 followed by catechin.
Cocoa, a product derived from the beans of Theobroma cacao plant, is a rich source of monomeric polyphenolic antioxidants, mainly epicatechin and catechin, and various polymers derived from these monomers, identified as procyanidins [21].
Among the compounds found in the control sap and jatoba stem bark, the main components were flavonoids and procyanidins, characterized by the molecular formula and the UV spectrum and compared to referential data.
Background: Oligopin (OP) is a quantified extract from French Maritime Pine bark (FMPB) with low molecular weight procyanidins. The cardioprotective effects of OP need to be tested in human clinical intervention trials with an appropriate design.
