a rudimentary vertebra that lies in front of the atlas in some animals; sometimes seen in humans as an anomaly in the lower posterior part of the skull.

A rudimentary vertebra in front of the atlas of small animals. It may be present as an anomaly in the understructure of the occipital bone in humans.
