(pō'lē-ō-en-sef'ă-lō-mă-lā'shē-ă),Cerebrocortical necrosis in sheep and goats, also seen in cattle, deer, and antelope. Associated with thiamine deficiency, water deprivation-sodium ion toxicosis, lead poisoning, and particularly with high dietary sulfur levels leading to high hydrogen sulfide and acetic acid levels in the rumen, which adversely affect carbohydrate metabolism.
