planum

(plā′nŭm) plural.plana [L.]
A flat or relatively smooth surface; a plane.

nuchal planum

The outer surface of the occipital bone between the foramen magnum and superior nuchal line.

occipital planum

The outer surface of the occipital bone lying above the superior nuchal line.

orbital planum

The portion of the maxilla that forms the greater part of the floor of the orbit.

popliteal planum

A smooth triangular area on the posterior surface of distal end of femur. It is bordered by the medial and lateral supracondylar lines and forms the floor of the popliteal fossa.

sternal planum

The anterior or ventral surface of the sternum.

temporal planum

The depressed area on the side of the skull below the inferior temporal line; underlies the temporal fossa.
