barrel distortion

irregular image produced when peripheral magnification is greater than axial magnification. See: Petzval surface.

barrel distortion

outward bowing of gridded straight lines in an image, resulting from lens distortion such that the lateral magnification at the center of the image is greater than that at the edges.
