peafowl

members of the genus Pavo of which there are a number of species including the common and the Javan. With the argus pheasant they represent the largest, most dramatically colored and longest tailed birds of the pheasant family Phasianidae. The peacock is a popular zoological specimen but has a typically raucous voice and is frequently muted surgically.
