Parainfluenzavirus

one of the three genera of viruses in the family Paramyxoviridae; abbreviated PI virus.

Parainfluenzavirus 1
causes bronchopneumonia in young pigs. Called also sendai virus. Occurs also in humans.
Parainfluenzavirus 2
a group of viruses one of which causes infectious tracheobronchitis of dogs (SV-5 disease).
Parainfluenzavirus 3
involved in the complex etiology of shipping fever in cattle and similar respiratory tract infections in sheep and possibly horses.
Parainfluenzavirus SV-5
an earlier name for parainfluenza 2 (above).
