It will be the first time in the history of South Africa that the rest of Africa will be joining them to commemorate Sharpeville Day, in a manner that the founding fathers of the Pan-Africanist Congress (which organised that 1960 march against the pass law), and the ruling African National Congress (ANC), now headed by Jacob Zuma, had never anticipated when they instituted 21 March as "Human Rights Day" and a major public holiday in South Africa.
He was one of the organizers of the historic 5th Pan-Africanist Congress in Manchester, England, more than half a century ago, a congress which proved decisive in the struggle against foreign rule in Africa and against racial oppression in the West and which demonstrated a remarkable unity between continental Africans and Africans in the Diaspora.
It needs to be remembered that when Pan-Africanists led by Man-galiso Sobukwe Jed a breakaway from the ANC to form the Pan-Africanist Congress, they cited, among other reasons, the power that white communists wielded over the ANC.
