Palmer acid test for peptic ulcer

An obsolete test for a peptic ulcer of the duodenum in which acid was administered by tube to evoke pain, thereby confirming the presence of an ulcer; provocative tests for ulcer disease have been abandoned in favour of endoscopy and radiological examination.
