PRDM2

A gene on chromosome 1p36.21 that encodes a tumour suppressor zinc finger protein of the nuclear histone/protein methyltransferase superfamily, which binds to the retinoblastoma protein, oestrogen receptor and the TPA-responsive element (MTE) of the haeme-oxygenase-1 gene. PRDM2 may:
• Play a role in regulating transcription during neuronal differentiation;
• Activate transcription of the haeme-oxygenase-1 gene;
• Be a specific effector of oestrogen activty.

Molecular pathology
PRDM2 activation may be linked to retinoblastoma.
