A gene on chromosome 12p13.31 that encodes peroxin-6, a member of the AAA family of ATPases, which are integral membrane proteins involved in peroxisome biosynthesis and integrity. 

Molecular pathology
PEX6 mutations are associated with peroxisome biogenesis disorders of complementation group 4 and complementation group 6.
