Oxyspirura

a genus of nematodes in the family Thelaziidae. They are parasites of the eyes of birds and cause ophthalmitis, with ocular discharge, and scratching at the eyes.

found under the third eyelid of fowls, turkeys and peafowl.

found in the eyes of wild birds.

We captured 36 northern bobwhites (Colinus virginianus) in Mitchell County, Texas, in June 2013 to September 2013 and examined them for the eyeworm Oxyspirura petrowi.
