Sagem has replaced the traditional microphone and earphone with an
osteophone, which consists of a headband with sensors, and piezoelectric actuators that receive and transmit vibrations through the skull bones.
Instead of a conventional microphone the radio will be linked to an
osteophone that will pick up bone vibrations instead of sound waves making it much more effective in noisy environments.
Elno is a company with considerable experience in the field of
osteophones. The firm produces a wide range of systems including the most innovative I BCH300 ultra-lightweight headset, fitted as a standard configuration with bone conduction technology for both listening and speech transmission, but a modified version with a noise-cancelling boom microphone is available.
