The AMD Opteron A1100 SoC is powering enterprise-class systems from SoftIron with its Overdrive3000 system for developers, as well as an upcoming lineup of Software Defined Storage solutions taking advantage of the processor's rich feature set.
Like every new generation of chips, the new Opteron processors are expected deliver better performance while drawing less power.
"We've seen the trend in the HPC industry's move to multi-core x86-based supercomputing and it's clear that the Six-Core AMD Opteron processor is the ideal choice right now for a world-class supercomputer," he noted.
It can also be configured with the ATI FirePro V7750 3-D workstation graphics accelerator, the company said.<br /> Meanwhile, Cray, Dell, IBM and Sun Microsystems are expected to unveil its own servers based on the six-core AMD Opteron processors later this month.
Continued v10.1 enhancements for Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors will be available from Absoft via Service Packs to registered v10.1 customers at no charge.
These use dual-core AMD Opteron processors ranging from 2.2 GHz to 2.6 GHz (one A Pro model uses the 3.0-GHz single-core Opteron).
By literally combining two separate processors within a single CPU chip, the dual-core AMD Opteron processor increases computing capacity and minimizes energy requirements within the same physical footprint space as a conventional x86CPU.
"PathScale's InfiniPath technology takes full advantage of the AMD Opteron processor with Direct Connect Architecture, directly connecting I/O, memory and processors with open-standard HyperTransport(TM) technology," said Pat Patla, director, server/workstation marketing, Microprocessor Solutions Sector for AMD (NYSE:AMD) .
Chelsio is joining AMD (NYSE:AMD) in celebration of the 2nd anniversary of the AMD Opteron processor and the growing AMD64 ecosystem by announcing this new world record using both companies' industry-leading products and technologies.
EN EL MARCO del segundo aniversario de su procesador Opteron, AMD presento los CPU con doble nucleo de 64 bits, Athlon 64 X2 para computadoras de escritorio y notebooks, asi como Opteron para servidores y estaciones de trabajo.
This is the first version of Solaris to support the AMD Opteron processor while running in 64-bit mode, enabling customers to take advantage of the industry's number one UNIX platform, as well as binary compatibility between 32-bit and 64-bit environments.
"The AMD Opteron processor provides SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 testers with the investment protection of outstanding overall x86 performance in both 32-bit and 64-bit computing environments.
