a genus of the plant family Apiaceae; contain the toxin oenanthotoxin, a toxic alcohol which causes sudden death, convulsions and no lesions; includes O. aquatica (horsebane), O. crocata (hemlock water dropwort), O. fistulosa (water dropwort), O. lachenalii (parsley water dropwort), O. palustris, O. pimpinelloides, O. sarmentosa, O. silaifolia.
