OS9A gene on chromosome 12q13 that encodes a ubiquitous lectin which binds selectively to improperly folded luminal proteins. OS9 plays a role in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) quality control and ER-associated degradation of misfolded proteins and retaining them in the ER, possibly transferring them to the ubiquitination machinery and promoting their degradation.
