A gene on chromosome 12p12 that encodes a solute transporter that mediates the Na+-independent transport of organic anions such as sulfobromophthalein and conjugated (taurocholate) and unconjugated (cholate) bile acids. It is selectively inhibited by naringin in grapefruit juice.
