To investigate fracture patterns, the specimens were grouped into either relatively thick-shelled bivalves (Clinocardium nuttallia [Conrad], Nuttallina californica [Reeve], Protothaea staminea [Conrad], Saxidomus gigantean [Deshayes], and Tapes japonica [Deshayes]) or relatively thin shelled bivalves, (Macoma nasuta [Conrad] and Mya arenia [Linnaeus]).
