The AOBs have higher efficiency in the transformation of nitrogen in relation to heterotrophic bacteria, but they take longer to oxidize the ammonia in nitrite and belong to the genera Nitrosomonas, Nitrosococcus, Nitrospira, Nitrosolobus and Nitrosovibrio.
This oxidation is carried out by bacteria of the genera Nitrosomonas sp., Nitrosococcus sp., Nitrosospira sp., Nitrosolobus sp., and Nitrosovibrio sp.
