NR2C1

A gene on chromosome 12q22 that encodes an orphan nuclear receptor which binds to hormone response elements, as well as to the IR7 element in the promoter of its own gene in an autoregulatory negative feedback mechanism. NR2C1 is a repressor of a broad range of genes, and it may be involved in stem cell proliferation and differentiation. It mediates retinoic acid-regulated pre-adipocyte proliferation.
