A gene on chromosome 16p13.3 that encodes a nucleotide-binding protein which attenuates the transcription of genes normally upregulated after T-cell stimulation; it also delays NFKBIA/IKBA degradation.

In contrast, 18 cytokines genes (BMPER, CCL19, CCL20, CCL4, CXCL14, IFNB, IL-12A, IL-17B, IL-17D, IL-17F, IL-19, IL-22, IL-26, IL-7, LIF, NLRC3, TGFA, and VEGFA) and 14 receptor genes (CXCR3, IFITM5, IL-13RA1, IL-17RC, IL-1RAPL2, IL-22RA1, IL-22RA2, ILDR1, LILRA5, LTBP2, PDGFD, PDGFRL, TNFRSF14, and TNFRSF6B) were markedly downregulated by 2.05- to 7.48-fold and 2.1- to 10.1-fold, respectively, in chicken line 6.3 with p < 0.01 and fold [greater than or equal to] 2 (Supplementary Table S4, Figures 4 and 5).
These proteins are classified based on their N-terminal domain, which includes a caspase recruitment domain (CARD) on Nod1, Nod2, and NLRC3, 4 and 5; a pyrin domain (PYD) on NLRP1-14; an acidic transactivating domain on NLRA; or a baculovirus inhibitor repeat (BIR) on NAIP [20].
