NEK9

A gene on chromosome 14q24.3 that encodes a NEK serine/threonine protein kinase that acts as a multifaceted regulator of mitotic progression, spindle dynamics and chromosome separation. NEK9 phosphorylates different histones, myelin basic protein, beta-casein, BICD2, histone H3 on serine and threonine residues, and beta-casein on serine residues. It is important for G1/S transition and S-phase progression.
