NEK2

NEK2

A gene on chromosome 1q32.2-q41 that encodes a NEK serine/threonine protein kinase involved controlling centrosome separation and bipolar spindle formation in mitotic cells and chromatin condensation in meiotic cells. It phosphorylates CDC20, CROCC, CEP250, HMGA2, MAD2L1, NDC80, NECAB3, NEK11, NINL, NPM1, PPP1CC and SGOL1; it is essential for localisation of MAD2L1 to kinetochore and MAPK1 and NPM1 to the centrosome.

Detection of IGF2BP3, HOXB7, and NEK2 mRNA expression in brush cytology specimens as a new diagnostic tool in patients with biliary strictures.
To improve the assay, a numerical score called the molecular grade index (MGI) was created by selecting 5 cell-cycle-related genes (BUB1B, CENPA, NEK2, RACGAP1, and RRM2) to be used concurrently with the H/I index to improve risk stratification.
