NANOS2

NANOS2

A gene on chromosome 19q13.32 that encodes a nanos-family zinc finger protein which plays a key role in the sexual differentiation of germ cells, promoting the male fate by suppressing female fate pathways. Prevention of STRA8 expression, which is required for premeiotic DNA replication, results in suppression of meiosis. NANOS2 is expressed in several spermatogenic stages; it interacts with CNOT1, CNOT3, CNOT6L, CNOT7 and CNOT9.

Dnd1, an evolutionary conserved RBP, is implicated in mediating germ-cell activity and inhibits the germ-cell tumors formation [6] and regulates the male germ-cell development by serving as an essential partner of NANOS2 [3].
