Cyclocoelum mutabile, originalmente descrito como Monostoma mutabile por Zeder (1800), representa la especie tipo del genero Cyclocoelum, genero establecido por Brandes (1892).
This fluke was also studied and described as Monostoma bombynae by Zeder (1800) because he failed to see the ventral sucker.
