SOD2(redirected from Mn superoxide dismutase)
SOD2A gene on chromosome 6q25.3 that encodes a mitochondrial superoxide dismutase which binds superoxide byproducts of oxidative phosphorylation, converting them to hydrogen peroxide and diatomic oxygen.
SOD2 mutations are associated with idiopathic cardiomyopathy, premature ageing, sporadic motor neurone disease, and cancer.
