MIME

Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions. The internet standard for attaching non-text files (graphics, spreadsheets, formatted word-processed documents, sound files, etc.) to email.

An email program is MIME-compliant if it can both send and receive files by the MIME standard (MS). Besides email software, the MS is also used by web servers to identify the files they are sending to web clients.
