A gene on chromosome Xq11.1 that encodes moesin, an ERM (ezrin, moesin, radixin) family protein that acts as a cross linker between plasma membranes and actin-based cytoskeletons, specifically localising to filopodia and other membranous protrusions critical for cell–cell recognition and signalling and for cell movement.
