micro-

1. Prefixes denoting smallness.
2. μ It is recommended that, in handwritten material and in computer work, names of units formed with this prefix be written in full, because both human beings and computers may misread the Greek letter μ as the Roman letter m. Alternatively the abbreviation mc may be substituted for μ thus, mcg, mcL, mcm, mcmol instead of μg, μL, μm, μmol. The Roman letter u is not in any circumstances a suitable substitute for μ.
