A Mexican salamander, Ambystoma mexicanum, studied in experimental medicine because of its ability to regenerate severed nerves.
axolotl the larval stage of the aquatic American salamander Amblystoma. It is capable of breeding in the larval form so demonstrating a phenomenon known as NEOTONY.
