mechanism of action

(1) The manner in which a therapeutic agent acts, which includes blocking of receptors, enzymes, stimulating hormone production, etc. 
(2) The physiologic or biochemical processes within the body that are affected by a drug’s action, producing a given response.

mechanism of action

The means by which a drug exerts its effects on cells or tissues. It may have specific binding sites, receptor activation, enzymatic activity, or solubility.
