MSTN

A gene on chromosome 2q32.2 that encodes myostatin, a member of the bone morphogenetic protein family, which regulates cell growth and differentiation in both embryonic and adult bone and cartilage. Myostatin appears to downregulate skeletal muscle growth.

The inhibitory effect of ActRIIB-ECD on MSTN activity was shown in vitro in A204 cells, using purified, recombinant saActRIIB-l-ECD (sa, from Sparus aurata) produced in the yeast Pichia pastoris and the CAGA-luciferase reporter gene assay [which uses a plasmid consisting of 12 Smad3/Smad4 binding sequences (CAGA boxes) and the luciferase-coding sequence] (Funkenstein et al., 2012).
It should be mentioned that the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium for MSTN gene in this population was at odds with the results reported by other researchers .Farhadiyan et al 2011 in a study on Makui'ssheep in intron 1 were performed on 417 pieces deviation from Hardy Weinberg equilibrium in this population were reported .
