Con el objetivo de implementar los esquemas de descripcion, sus descriptores, los atributos de cada uno de los elementos (DS o D), las relaciones existentes entre ellos, los tipos de datos utilizados (primitivos y compuestos) y los valores posibles de un descriptor, MPEG-7 utiliza el Lenguaje de Definicion de Descriptores o DDL (Description Definition Language), el cual esta basado en XML y que permite la extension y modificacion de los elementos existentes (Peig, 2003).
MPEG-7 tambien utiliza el concepto de esquemas de clasificacion (Classification Scheme CS).
* Automatic extraction of low level features: for each video, a set of MPEG-7 descriptors is extracted; the obtained low level features are then processed in order to extract temporal and spatial features related to the whole content.
* Starting from the analysis of MPEG-7 descriptors it is also possible to obtain information about the temporal evolution of the videos, revealing, therefore, aspects of storytelling style.
MPEG-7 standard has been included in several metadata language, such as ODRL (Open Digital Rights Language) (3) and has been coupled with other important TV ontologies (e.g., TVAnytime RMPI [27]).
MPEG-21 [2] differs from MPEG-7 because it aims to define a normative open framework to be used by all the players in the delivery and consumption value chain.
