MMP19

A gene on chromosome 12q14 that encodes matrix metalloproteinase 19, an endopeptidase that degrades components of the extracellular matrix, including collagen IV, laminin, nidogen, nascin-C isoform, fibronectin and type I gelatin, playing a role in development, haemostasis and pathological conditions (e.g., arthritic disease). It is widely expressed except in the brain and peripheral white cells.

These groups are the collagenases [MMP 1 (interstitial collagenase), MMP 8 (neutrophil collagenase), MMP 13 (collagenase 3), MMP18 (collagenase 4)], the gelatinases [MMP 2 (gelatinase A), 9 (gelatinase B)], the stromelysins (MMP 3, 10, 11), membrane-type MMPs (MT-MMPs 14, 15, 16, 17, 23A, 23B, 24, 25), and other MMPs.
Due to structural and substrate specificity, MMPs are currently divided into seven classes: collagenases (MMP1, MMP8, MMP13, and MMP18), gelatinases (MMP2 and MMP9), stromelysins (MMP3, MMP10), stromelysin like (MMP11 and MMP12), matrilysins (MMP7 and MMP26), membrane type (MMP14, MMP15, MMP16, MMP17, MMP24, and MMP25), and others (MMP19, MMP20, MMP21, MMP22, MMP23, MMP27, and MMP28) [18, 27, 28].
