MMP12

A gene on chromosome 11q22.3 that encodes matrix metalloproteinase 12, which degrades soluble and insoluble elastin and thus is thought to be involved in tissue injury and remodelling.

Among the genes of the MMPs family spotted on our array, MMP1, MMP12 (macrophage elastase), MMP14, and MMP-19 had enhanced expression in subjects from the high-level arsenic exposure group.
