MCF2

MCF2

A gene on Xq27 that encodes an oncogenic protein, a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) which controls some of the Rho family of small GTPases, promoting the conversion of some from the GDP-bound to the GTP-bound form. The MCF2 protein product is cleaved into MCF2-transforming protein and DBL-transforming protein.

The major virulence factors produced by Photorhabdus consist of mcf1 and mcf2 (=makes caterpillar floppy) genes, the Tc (toxin complex) genes, Pir (Photorhabdus insect related) operon, and a multitude of other virulence factors associated with Photorhabdus virulence cassettes (PVC) (Rodou et al., 2010).
MCF2 L, which codes for the Rho-specific guanine nucleotide exchange factor Dbs that catalyzes guanine nucleotide exchange on RHOA and CDC42 and interacts specifically with the GTP-bound form of RAC1 has been shown to be associated with knee and hip OA.
