MC5R

MC5R

A gene on chromosome 18p11.2 that encodes a receptor for alpha, beta and gamma melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH), the activity of which is mediated by G protein-activated adenylate cyclase. MC5R is thought to mediate the immunomodulatory properties of melanocortins and may play a role in sebum production.

These effects are caused by a-MSH interacting with its specific membrane receptors: MC1R, MC2R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R.
Five types of membrane receptors were identified for a-MSH, namely MC1R, MC2R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R.
Essa classe de receptores tem seis isoformas que sao: MC1R, MC2R, MC3R, MC4R, MC5R e o MC6R, porem somente o MC2R e expresso na glandula adrenal (FLUCK; MILLER, 2008).
